BILOU Pink Melon Creamy Shower Foam and Fizzy Berry Cream Foam review – VEGAN body care

As you know by now I love spreading the word about vegan/cruelty-free beauty products so I regularly browse social media, beauty halls, Boots and Superdrug to discover more. I discovered Bilou on Instagram, I instantly fell in love with the packaging and was already planning this to be my next vegan post. Contrary to last week’s post I think Bilou is targeted more towards the cool, young, Instagram savvy vegan girls, I know, I’m way older but I won’t let this stop me buying it because I just love trying new things.

Introduced to Superdrug, the German brand popped up a year ago and has quickly found its way to the PETA cruelty-free/vegan list. The creator of Bilou is a German blogger called Bibi from the Youtube Channel Bibi’s Beauty Palace. The range has shower foams, cream foams and ‘2 in 1’ body sprays in five different scents: Tasty Donut, Coco Cocktail, Fizzy Berry, Pink Melon and Cotton Candy. I randomly picked two and here is how I got on:

Pink Melon Creamy Shower Foam

What it is: shower foam with a sweet fruity scent.

Who it is for: all skin types, please check the inci list for sensitivities.

Packaging: aerosol style can, I love the look of these products, they are pretty, fresh and fun, I like the graphics, the fonts they used and they are of course very photogenic.

Ingredients:

Aqua, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Butane, Disodium Cocoamphodiacetate, Propane, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis Oil, Persea Gratissima Oil, Aloe Barbadensis Extract, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Parfum, Sodium Benzoate, Dipropylene Glycol, Citric Acid, Sodium Chloride, Benzyl Alcohol.

There are quite a few possible irritants here like SLS, fragrance, etc. but my skin was completely fine with this formulation. It doesn’t contain parabens or mineral oils.

How to use it: All you have to do is shake the bottle well, while keeping it upright dispense a little bit into your hand and spread all over the body as you would a normal shower gel than rinse off.

How it worked for me: Putting on this foamy formula feels strange at first because I am used to using gels all the time but it has a nice, soft, creamy feel on the skin and despite containing SLS it feels quite moisturizing. A little bit goes a long way so you don’t have to go crazy with the dispenser. The scent is quite sweet but not sickly at all, which is a relief, and it lingers on a bit in the bathroom and on the skin too. For me, this one has the better smell out of the two resembling melons and sweet berries.

Fizzy Berry Gentle Cream Foam

What it is: foam body moisturizer with a sweet scent.

Who it is for: all skin types, please check the inci list for sensitivities.

Packaging: same as the shower foam, it looks fresh and fun with great graphics, fonts and an Insta-ready look.

Ingredients:

Aqua, Ethylhexyl Stearate, Isopropyl Palmitate, Butane, Glycerin, Propane, Butyrospermum Parkii Butter, Cellulose Gum, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Oil, Panthenol, Parfum, Dicaprylyl Ether, Phenoxyethanol, Glyceryl Stearate, Cetearyl Alcohol, Tocopheryl Acetate, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Benzyl Alcohol, Sodium Lauroyl Glutamate, Sodium Stearoyl Glutamate, Sodium Cocoyl Glutamate, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice Powder, Citric Acid.

Same as the shower foam, there are quite a few possible irritants here like SLS, fragrance, etc. but my skin was completely fine with this formulation. It doesn’t contain parabens or mineral oils.

How to use it: After shaking the bottle well you dispense a little bit into your hand and spread all over the body, massage it in as you would a normal body moisturiser.

How I worked for me: Again, first it feels a bit strange applying a foamy texture onto your body but it is easy to get used to it. The formula is soft, silky and lightweight, a little goes a long way, it spreads easily on the skin and it sinks in quickly. It’s great if you don’t want a heavy cream on and just want to slide into your pyjamas in the evening quickly without it sticking all over your body and it is ideal after quick morning showers. If you want a heavy-duty moisturiser, this is not for you. The Fizzy Berry Cream Foam is the sweater smelling one of the two but it’s still not sickly.

Value for money: excellent, at ยฃ3.99 each, they are a well-worth investment for spreading the vegan/cruelty-free message to young people while having fun using them.

Bilou products are great if you need a sweet treat, excellent as gifts, maybe the range could use a few fresh, zingy scented formulas to make it more appealing for people who are not into sweet as much.
