I was writing about the MET Gala when the first red carpet pictures from Cannes started popping up all over the internet and I have to say, it made me more excited than the Gala itself. Cannes is one of the more fun events during the Spring, it is basically two weeks of watching movies, going to parties and sunbathing with some healthy amount of networking thrown in. The beauty looks perfectly reflect that with lush, bright colours, seductive smoky eyes, glowing skin and sun-kissed bodies.
A big part of my excitement was interestingly none other than Kristen Stewart. We all know she has fantastic features and beautiful face for makeup (she is the ambassador for Chanel Beauty after all) and she is everything but predictable when it comes to fashion and beauty looks but we don’t see her on red carpets enough to appreciate her creativity. While I know that opting out from playing a big part in the Hollywood scene is probably a wise decision, I was happy to see her as a member of the Jury in Cannes. With every appearance, she gave us a totally different, fun look created by Beau Nelson, celebrity and editorial makeup artist for over twenty years with a prestigious client list. I highly recommend checking out his Instagram account where you can see his exceptional work and if you are a bit of a makeup geek like me I’m sure you will find it inspiring.
I could actually do a top ten discussing Kristen’s looks only but then it would be a shame to leave out some others who have done well. Here are my absolute favourites from the two weeks starting with a Kristen top five (it had to be at least five):

My top look Kristen wore was a dramatic black smokey eye with silver glitter running through it with the rest of the face toned down, lightly blushed. Beau created this look for the opening night and used Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Tinted Moisturizer In Light, Joues Contrast in Rose Initial, Les 4 Ombres – Eclat Enigmatique, Ombre Premiere Noir and Le Volume De Chanel Mascara. Her hair and makeup are cool, edgy which created a nice contrast with her frilly, feminine Chanel dress.
Kristen wore the next look to the Vanity Fair Dinner Party. Matching the Cannes summer blue skies, this electric blue smokey eye look is mesmerizing and looks popping when the rest of the face is paired back with a light dusting of pink blush and light pink lips. Don’t you just want to recreate it straight away?
This next look has taken Instagram by storm and no wonder why. Chanel stands for everything that’s classic, so does an eyeliner flick, but how about switching the usual black liquid liner to a white one? Not just that, but how about accessorizing it with a string of tiny white pearls? Now that’s taking the classics to a brand new level of amazing! I am sure this trend will be very popular at the wedding scene this year!
For the closing ceremony, Kristen and Beau went for a very soft, feminine look. The bronze smokey eye was winged out to give it a bit of a drama which made Kristen’s green eyes pop and complemented the gold embroidered Chanel dress beautifully. The rest of the look was very neutral.
My final chosen makeup on Kristen is this sensational red lip look. Isn’t Chanel the best when it comes to red lipsticks? The matte red lip was paired with taupe smokey eyes, red nails and a pair of cool shades.
It was really difficult to pick the top five Kristen looks because there were a lot more. She is a true beauty chameleon and Beau Nelson seems to be the best to bring it out in her.
And now let’s see who else got it right:
New Armani Beauty ambassador, Director of the Jury at Cannes, Cate Blanchett had a series of chic looks courtesy of the great Mary Greenwell, you can see the breakdown of all the looks on her IG account. The makeup at the closing ceremony was my favourite in the top right-hand corner in the picture below, especially the lips, Mary used Armani Neo Nude Ecstasy Balm lipstick in #1 – Light Pink, Lip Maestro in #300 – Flesh and Smooth Silk Lips Pencil in #4.
Soo Joo Park, model and spokesperson for L’oreal, wore a soft red lip with pinks and bronzes blended over her eyes paired with a black flick. That colour on her lip looks divine.
Winnie Harlow opted for a vintage Hollywood look with deep berry lips.
Thandie Newton looked edgy with her hair up in a quiff and blue-grey smokey eyes…
…then, later on, she went for a more soft, feminine look with pink cheeks and lips.
Sara Sampaio stood out with a deep burgundy lip and some silver glitter on her eyes.
Marion Cottilard went for a classic red lip-black eyeliner combination but the shade of red she went for and her hair slicked back made her look fresh and modern.
Ming Xi kept her look young and fresh that looked beautiful with classic Hollywood wavy hair and long pearl earrings.
Penelope Cruz was staying firmly in her comfort zone with her heavily kohled eyes and nude lips
Angolan model, Maria Borges, was a breath of fresh air on the red carpet with her pink eyes and lips.
British model and designer, Leomie Anderson, proved that blue eyes are still very much on trend. She went for a dramatic cat eye look with lots of sparkle with a nude lip.
Member of the jury, Leah Seydoux is always a favourite in my red carpet reports, here she is rocking a seductive light red lip with black liner and her hair is slicked back just like Marion Cotillard’s. The large earrings and necklace add a very nice expensive touch on the look…
…and here she is with a more classic, very soft natural look paired with a bright red lip.
Musician, member of the jury, Khadja Nin paired her bright blue headpiece with brick red lips and a modest black eyeliner. She definitely caught everyone’s attention on the red carpet with this look.
Julianne Moore looked absolutely breathtaking with her hair up, black eyeliner and a red lip. I just love those statement earrings too.
Joan Smalls likes to go for a variety of looks it seems, one night she opted for a glossy red lip…
…and for a blue eyeliner, nude lip combination on the next.
One of my favourite actresses, Lupita Nyong’o is never boring on the red carpet, this time she paired her beautiful white dress with a red eyeshadow, black eyeliner and deep berry lips.
Fan Bing Bing is one of the world’s most beautiful women and a soft makeup like this shows it off perfectly. Black eyeliner, satin finish skin, fresh cheeks, peachy lips paired with delicate jewellery and a simple updo is complementing her beauty in a classy way.
Emilia Clark‘s Met Gala look didn’t work for me, but this time her look was spot on: a side-sweeping fringe, natural skin and eyes complemented her fresh berry lip.
Chris Lee was showing off her superb short haircut with soft-focus black liner and nude lip with statement earrings.
Irina Shayk‘s bronzed glowy look was enhanced by the beautiful deep red lip shade and a laidback updo.
Filmmaking legend Ava Du Vernay opted for everything purple. You would think it is too much but somehow the purple smokey eyes, purple tone blush and deep berry lip just worked brilliantly with her bright purple dress.
