Makeup of the day – Sepia eyes

Today’s makeup is all about the colour sepia. I have a real fascination with this shade for some reason and I think if that would be the only eyeshadow colour in the world I wouldn’t mind it at all.

Sepia as a shade is a reddish-brown colour that was named after the rich brown pigment obtained from the ink sac of a cuttlefish called Sepia. A well-known use of the shade is as an added tone to black and white photographs in the darkroom to “warm” up the tones.

I have loved this shade since my early Mac days when they launched the Pro Longwear eyeshadow range and released Uninterrupted. It is a matte sepia shade which I still find incredibly sophisticated and chic. I have used it on myself and clients countless times and I just can’t get enough of it. Needless to say, I was very happy to see similar shades popping up during the Autumn/Winter ’18 Fashion Month.

Today I made this eyeshadow the centre of my look and let it shine by toning down everything else. If you have green or blue eyes this is the perfect way to make them stand out.

Here is the breakdown of the look:

Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish, The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 Serum, L’occitane Aqua Rèotier Ultra Thirst-Quenching Gel, Make Up For Ever Step 1 Equalizer Shade in Mauve.

Chanel Vitalumière Aqua in Shade 20, Garnier SkinActive BB Eye Roll-On, YSL All Hours Concealer in Shade 2 and 3, all buffed together with a Real Techniques sponge.

Kiko Precision Eyebrow Pencil in 04, Mac Fluidline Brow Gelcreme (I used this one just to draw in a few hairs with a tiny artist brush).

Mac Paint Pot in Painterly, Mac Pro Longwear Eyeshadow in Uninterrupted blended with a Real Techniques blending brush, Mac Blacktrack in the upper waterline, lash curling and lashings of  e.l.f Length and Volume Mascara.

Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Liquid in Pearl,  Charlotte Tilbury Instant Look in a Palette in Natural Beauty 5. Cheek Swish Shade and  7. Highlight shade all applied with a Mac 150 brush.

Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipstick in Boho Nude and a touch of Tanya Burr Birthday Cake lipgloss in the centre of the lips.
